A team of William Jewell College students in a special symposium on “How We Choose Presidents” will lead off with questions for the panel, as always we welcome public participation as we explore the outcome of one of the most contested elections in American history!

Panelists

Terry Nelson is a founding and managing partner at FP1 Strategies. Nelson helps lead FP1’s various practice areas, ensuring that their internal team and the candidates they work for stay focused on the big picture things they need to do to win on Election Day. Nelson has led successful media campaigns for Governors, Members of Congress and ballot measures. With more than two decades of experience in high-stakes races, Nelson has earned the reputation of being one of the most influential and respected voices in the Republican Party. He has expertise in media strategy, campaign management, field operations and advertising.

Rosy Gonzalez Speers, founder and CEO of RG Speers, is a political and communications strategist. Rosy founded Forward Florida Action, a nonprofit voter registration organization in Florida, with 2018 Democratic nominee for Governor of Florida, Andrew Gillum and is Senior Advisor to the Florida Democratic Party. She also served as Finance Director and Political Director for Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.

Jennifer Horn is a co-founder of The Lincoln Project and a communications strategy consultant. She served as Chairman of the NH Republican Party, 2013-2017, and was the 2008 NH2 Congressional nominee. She served as Co-Chair of the NH Log Cabin Republicans and sat on the Log Cabin Republicans national board of directors. She was an award-winning radio talk show host and is currently a columnist for the New Hampshire Union Leader.

Tom McMahon. With more than 25 years of experience in the field, Tom has served as the Executive Director of the Democratic National Committee, oversaw the implementation of the “50 state strategy”, and helped modernize the Democratic Party through the use of social media and peer-to-peer platforms. He is also the founding partner of NP Strategy Group, where he continues to work to help organizations succeed through data driven communication strategies.
 
Maggie Nelson Collins is the Founder and Managing Principal of the Howe Street Group, offering a range of nonprofit and public policy consulting services. In this capacity Maggie provides client specialized services including government and legislative affairs, policy analysis, content writing, political and campaign consulting, major-gift fundraising and annual giving program development.
 
Maggie began her career as a Legislative Assistant in the United States Senate covering transportation, agriculture and space science issues. Maggie earned a B.A. in Political Science and Communication Studies at the University of Kansas and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College. Maggie serves on the Advisory Board of Charlie’s House, a non-profit organization whose mission is to prevent injuries to children in and around the home.
 
Maggie lives in Kansas City with her husband Tom and their three children.
